Martin and Rebecca Cate of SMuggler's Cove in San Francisco (one of our favorite SF drink spots). will be spaking at the Smithsonian, yes, THE Smithsonian in Washington DC on August 24th.  They will be discussing the tiki and the rise, fall and rise again of polynesian pop-cultre and cocktails.

Cate traces the rise of tiki culture to the early 20th century and the interest in the exotic and distant tales of the South Pacific.

You can read an interview with Cate in the online version of the SMithsonian Magazine here.

The Cates are authors of Smuggler’s Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki (Ten Speed Press). The book, winner of a 2017 James Beard Foundation Book Award, is available for purchase and signing. They will be speaking on August 24th at 6:45 and will do book signings as well as tasting. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased here.
